Reiki Healing

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique used for stress reduction, relaxation, and to promote healing and balance in the body’s chakra system.  It is a safe and holistic method that can treat the mind, body, and spirit.  Rei (pronounced “ray”) means Universal Spirit or Essence.  Ki (pronounced “key”) means Life Energy, Light, or Chi. Therefore, Reiki means the Universal Spirit of Life or Universal Life Force Energy.

What Are the Benefits of Reiki?

Stress, trauma, and illness restrict the natural flow of energy through the body.  Most diseases and illnesses have a mental, emotional, or spiritual root cause.  This manifests in your energy field by causing imbalances, defects, blockages, and other restrictions of natural life force.  When these imbalances persist, your physical body will start having symptoms due to the lack of free-flowing positive energy in those sectors of the body.  Reiki accelerates the body’s natural ability to heal physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional ailments by balancing the body’s chakra system.  Reiki loosens up blocked energy and promotes a state of total relaxation and overall well-being.  Reiki is a way to “tune-up” your energy to its healthiest state, which allows for natural healing in a holistic way.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki naturally goes where it is needed most.  Reiki works for the greatest good of your higher self, whether that be physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual.  The Reiki practitioner serves as a conduit of this energy as it works its way throughout the body’s meridians and chakras to restore balance.  As your vibrational rate increases, it causes the toxins stored in your body to be released, which starts a cleansing, detoxifying, and healing process.

Does Reiki Take the Place of Medical or Professional Treatment?

No.  Reiki is a professional treatment, however, it is not a substitute for medical care.  Reiki is a therapy that works in harmony with regular medical and/or psychological treatment.  Reiki practitioners are not medical physicians, so we can’t diagnose medical or psychological problems.  It is recommended that you see a licensed health care professional in addition to receiving regular Reiki treatments.

What Happens During a Reiki Session?

You are encouraged to dress comfortably and avoid eating sugar or drinking caffeine or alcohol at least one hour prior to your Reiki session.  Upon arriving for your treatment, you will be asked to remove your shoes and any jewelry or belts.  You will rest comfortably on a massage table and remain clothed for the entire session.  After each of the seven major chakras has been assessed, your treatment will begin.  First, I will begin with vibrational sound therapy by placing several energetic tuning forks above or gently on your body.  This will help to remove blockages in the body’s pathways and increase the flow of energy facilitating homeostasis through which healing begins.  Sound waves travel around 4 times faster in water, which makes the body an excellent receptor and conductor of vibrational sound healing.  After vibrational sound therapy, I will begin the flow of Reiki.  I will place my hands 3-4 inches above your body, within layers of your aura, in a series of hand positions and motions to direct Reiki energy throughout your body to release energy blocks.   I will conclude your treatment by playing the soothing, relaxing, restorative, and meditative sound of Himalayan Healing Bowls followed by a reassessment of your 7 major chakras.

What Does Reiki Feel Like?

What one experiences during a Reiki treatment varies from person to person. Feelings of deep relaxation and peace of mind are usually experienced by all.   Many people have expressed a feeling of warmth or glowing radiance that flows through and around them during treatment.   Some clients even drift off to sleep.  At the end of the treatment, you should feel refreshed with a more positive and balanced outlook.

What Happens After a Reiki Treatment?

During and after your Reiki session your body will release toxins as it rebalances your energy.  Some people may experience one or more of the following detoxification symptoms.  The symptoms listed below are positive signs that your body is bringing itself back into balance.
  • Frequent urination and/or bowel movements
  • Feeling emotional releases or shifts
  • Feeling on top of the world and buzzing with energy
  • Feeling fatigued
  • Need for additional sleep
  • Tingling sensations
  • Temporary “flu-like” symptoms
Be sure to drink plenty of water the day of your treatment to assist the detoxification process.  Taking a 30-40 minute Epsom salt bath 24 hours after your treatment is also an effective way to aid detoxification.

How Often Should I Get a Reiki Treatment?

While it is possible for an immediate healing response after your first treatment, you should not expect an instantaneous change for chronic or long-standing conditions.  Some people can experience what is called a “Healing Crisis.”  Much like spring cleaning, a room gets messier and more cluttered before it gets clean and organized.  Energy healing is similar.  As you start the process of healing your physical and emotional body, you bring all the clutter and “junk” to the surface and time is needed to process and eliminate what no longer serves you, which then strengthens and accelerates the healing process.  For serious, chronic, or long-standing conditions, regular weekly sessions are recommended before transitioning to every 4-8 weeks maintenance schedule.
